UP Election 2022: Kasganj Assembly Seat Key To Uttar Pradesh Victory?

Since 1977, the Bharatiya Janata Party has recorded four victories from Kasganj while Samajwadi Party has won twice.

New Delhi: Kasganj Assembly constituency in Eta District of Uttar Pradesh holds a very interesting story to the chief ministerial seat in Uttar Pradesh. It is believed, whichever party wins this assembly seat most likely forms the government in the state.

To some extent, trends support this belief. In 2007 Uttar Pradesh elections, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) was voted to power with its candidate Hasrat Ullah Sherwani winning the Kasganj seat .

In 2012, the Samajwadi Party (SP) formed the government in the state. Interestingly, SP's Manpal Singh defeated his rival Hasrat Ullah Sherwani from Kasganj.

Similarly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in the state in 2017 with party candidate Devendra Singh Rajput winning from the Kasganj assembly constituency by a margin of over 49,000 votes.

The voting for the Kasganj Assembly seat will be held in the third phase of Uttar Pradesh elections on February 20. The constituency is represented by BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rajput.

Since 1977, the Bharatiya Janata Party has recorded four victories from Kasganj while Samajwadi Party has won twice.

Popular farmer's leader Kuldeep Pandey will fight from Kasganj on a congress ticket. He will be pitted against his close rival Devendra Singh Rajput, a sitting MLA of the BJP, from the key battleground.

The Samajwadi party has fielded former MLA Manpal Singh while the Bahujan Samajwadi Party has given ticket to Prabhudayal Verma to fight from the Kasganj seat.

Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh was held on February 10. As many as 2.27 crore voters cast their vote in 58 assembly constituencies of Jat-dominated west Uttar Pradesh. The voting process was peaceful and no incidents of violence were reported.

The second phase of the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held on February 14. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
