'Children Exploited For Political Gains': BJD Slams BJP MPs In Complaint To EC For 'Using Kids In Rallies'

BJD also alleged that this is "recurring pattern" as it accused BJP MPs Baijayant Panda and Dharmendra Pradhan of using children in political rallies and meetings.

Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal has alleged Bharatiya Janata Party MP candidate Aparijita Sarangi of "exploiting" children for political purposes in the state. In a letter to Odisha Cheif Electoral Officer, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led party alleged that Sarangi, a BJP candidate from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat has allegedly used children in political rallies in the Bhubaneswar North Assembly constituency.

"The use of minors in political canvassing and activities is not only unethical but also a violation of their rights and well-being," the letter stated, adding, "Children, especially those of such tender age, should be shielded from the complexities and controversies of political affairs and should instead be provided with a nurturing environment conducive to their growth and development."

"It is deeply disturbing to learn that Smt. Aparajita Sarangi has allegedly disregarded these fundamental principles by exploiting young children for political gains," the party said.

The letter claimed that this is not an isolated instance but has a "recurring pattern" with past instances of similar exploitation being reported during the political rallies and activities of other BJP leaders in Odisha.

BJD accused Baijayant Pandy and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of using children in their political rallies and meetings, as well as for putting up posters and banners of the BJP.

"Such actions not only violate ethical norms but also contravene the principles of child rights and protection enshrined in various national and international statutes," it said demanding "imperative that strict action" against state BJP leaders.

"Failure to address this issue effectively would not only perpetuate the exploitation of children for political gains but also undermine the credibility of our electoral process and democratic institutions," it said.
