The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for upcoming general elections after March 13. The central poll body has been visiting several states to take stock of the preparations for the LS polls, and once it is done, the dates will be announced, India Today reported on Friday, citing Election Commission sources.
The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) finalised a seat-sharing deal for the upcoming polls in Goa, Goa AAP President Amit Palekar said on Saturday, as reported by news agency ANI.
He stated, "Our national leaders of the I.N.D.I.A Bloc alliance, Kejriwal Ji, Sandeep Pathak, along with the Congress, decided that both the seats in Goa, with consensus from the local leadership, will be contested by the Congress party. We have agreed to contest these seats as part of the I.N.D.I.A Bloc alliance".
This announcement follows AAP's claims, made in separate press conferences on Thursday and Friday, that the BJP-led Union government is allegedly planning to arrest Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the party proceeds with its alliance with the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections.
In a boost to the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have reached an agreement on seat sharing in the national capital ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. According to ABP News sources, the AAP can contest elections on four seats, whereas the Congress is likely to field its candidates on three seats. The talks on seat-sharing are in the final stage.
AAP can contest elections on New Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi seats, whereas Congress can contest elections on East Delhi, North East Delhi, and Chandni Chowk seats. The Congress currently does not have any Lok Sabha MP or MLA from Delhi.
