Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Saturday that Rahul Gandhi represents the "laziest type of politics" by making bizarre allegations and promises with no intention of improving people's lives, just days after the Congress leader sparked outrage by proposing a caste census and promising a slew of perks in Karnataka. He also expressed optimism that the rebellion of some key BJP leaders in Karnataka would not prevent the incumbent party from achieving its first-ever majority in the state assembly elections.

"It is the laziest type of politics that Rahul Gandhi represents," the BJP leader was quoted as saying by PTI, adding that his politics consists of saying something bizarre, making a few allegations and promises, and then leaving without any intention of working hard to improve people's lives.

"When they were in power, they did nothing for the OBC." Consider all of the work done for the community in Karnataka under the prime minister and the double-engine government. "The Congress style is to make promises and then disappear," the minister explained.

With Rahul Gandhi making a slew of promises at a poll rally in Karnataka, including allowances for the unemployed and women and support for a caste census in an attempt to woo the politically important Other Backward Classes (OBC), Chandrasekhar slammed him, questioning the party's track record when it was in power for decades.

"They have gone and made promises in Punjab, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh that they have never fulfilled," he claimed.

He claimed that state BJP leaders accepted the generational shift following the "brave" decision to field 74 first-time candidates in the May 10 elections.

According to Chandrasekhar, the BJP has come to be associated with the state's future, whereas the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) represent the state's "lazy, entitled, and exploitative" politics of the past.

The BJP leader stated that the defection of Lingayat leaders such as former chief minister Jagadish Shettar and former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi will not erode the community's support for the party, citing the BJP's historical "commitment, recognition, and respect" for the group's leaders.

The BJP leadership's decision to field 74 new faces among the total 224 candidates is significant and courageous, he said, because it believes it is the party for Karnataka's future.
