'Who Will Give Guarantee For Rahul Gandhi?': Assam CM's Barb At Cong Leader's Poll Guarantees In K'taka

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a public gathering in Karnataka questioned the credibility of Rahul Gandhi and his promise of filling 2.5 lakh vacant government jobs if Congress comes to power.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public gathering in Mangaluru, Karnataka on Sunday and questioned the credibility of the latter's poll promises, hours after Rahul Gandhi promised that 2.5 lakh government posts lying vacant would be filled if Congress comes to power in Karnataka. Sarma said that Gandhi gives guarantees in Karnataka "but who will take his guarantee?". The Assam CM also remarked how Rahul Gandhi has not once visited Amethi in the last 5 years after his defeat in the 2019 election.

"Mr Rahul Gandhi is coming and giving the guarantee. My first question is, who will give guarantee for Rahul Gandhi himself? He was MP from Uttar Pradesh and with one defeat he migrated to Kerala. People of Amethi are still confused we elected this family for the entire period of our history. They lost once and now he came out of the state for good. He is not visiting Amethi in the last five years. Can you believe in the guarantee of a person who cannot give guarantee for himself... Even his mother is concerned about him," Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

"Sonia Gandhi is fighting a lone battle for the last 20 years only to establish Rahul Gandhi stand, now how can that person (Rahul Gandhi) can come and gives guarantee to the people of Karnataka?" he remarked in Mangaluru.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel while responding to Sarma's remarks said, "Himanta Biswa Sarma changed his party. No one is greedy as much as he is. Congress party has given him the identity... What is his morality to accuse Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi."

Meanwhile, the state's final leg of campaigning for the May 10 Assembly elections has intensified. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a roadshow in Bengaluru today however the route will be short due to the NEET entrance exam.

Gehlot Urges EC To Ban Modi's Campaign, Cong Submits Complaint Against Top BJP Leaders

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday by urging the Election Commission (EC) to ban Modi from campaigning in the poll-bound state of Karnataka. While speaking at a press conference, he accused the Prime Minister of seeking votes in the southern state on the basis of religion.

He also took a jibe at the BJP over an alleged threat by a Congress party candidate in the Karnataka polls to wipe out both Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge as well as his family, reported news agency PTI.

Citing the law, he said, "Read the law... if someone talks in the name of religion, on religious grounds in an election campaign, a ban should be imposed."
