Former Cricketer Virender Sehwag's Sister Anju Sehwag Joins AAP

Anju Sehwag is, however, not a political greenhorn. Anju Sehwag had contested the 2012 Delhi MCD polls as a Congress candidate from Dakshinpuri Extension.

New Delhi: Anju Sehwag, sister of former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday.

"Virender Sehwag's sister, Anju Sehwag joins AAP. She is a former Congress councillor from Delhi and was a teacher by profession. Inspired by the work done by CM Kejriwal, she has joined AAP with all her supporters," AAP said in a tweet.

Anju Sehwag is, however, not a political greenhorn. Anju Sehwag had contested the 2012 Delhi MCD polls as a Congress candidate from Dakshinpuri Extension, a ward reserved for women. She had defeated her BJP rival Arti Devi by a margin of 558 votes.

Anju was a Hindi teacher at Laxman Public School and is a mother of two. She moved from Najafgarh to Madangiri (part of Dakshinpuri ward) in 2000 after her marriage to Ravinder Singh, a contractor.

Anju had then claimed that her family had been "diehard Congress supporters for decades" and she was the first person to join electoral politics.

The development comes as AAP gears up for the Punjab Assembly election next year. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party is the main Opposition party in Punjab and is looking to form the next government amid a multi-cornered fight in the state polls.
