Congress Always Ran Nagaland On Remote Control From Delhi: PM Modi

Addressing a rally in poll-bound Nagaland, PM Modi said the Congress always ran the state on remote control from Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched an attack on the Congress saying the party always ran the state on remote control from Delhi.

Addressing a rally, he said, "Congress leaders in Delhi never looked towards Nagaland, and never gave importance to stability and prosperity in the state. Congress always ran the Nagaland govt on remote control from Delhi. From Delhi to Dimapur, Congress indulged in familial politics."

"Today, the Central government is giving free ration to thousands of families in Nagaland. This is happening because we don't consider the 8 states of the Northeast as ATMs as the Congress party did. For us, the 8 Northeast states are 'Ashta Lakshmi'," he added.

He also revealed his party's mantra for Nagaland. He said, "Our mantra for Nagaland has been - Peace, progress and prosperity, and this is the reason people's trust in BJP is rising."

Lauding the work of the BJP government in Tripura he said, "After many decades, there was no incident of violence during Assembly elections in Tripura as there is a BJP government in the state."

He also said work is underway to connect Kohima with railways. "Once connected with railways, it will increase the ease of living and ease of doing business here. From tourism to technology and sports to startups, GoI helping the youth of Nagaland," he said.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that he was confident that Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) would be removed from the state of Nagaland completely in the coming three to four years. The Home Minister made the remarks while addressing a public gathering in poll-bound Nagaland’s Tuensang. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a lot of work in these nine years to establish peace in the entire Northeast.

Talking about the issue of eastern Nagaland, Shah promised that after the elections, all issues relating to the region will be resolved. He said that before 2014, Nagaland was full of violence, insurgency, bomb blasts and bandhs.

“However, after PM Modi came to centre through peace accords we have ensured a progressive path for Nagaland. PM Modi has taken several decisions in the last 9 years to restore peace in the region,” he further said.

He said that before the elections, ENPO (Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation) had given a call to boycott polls raising the issues of their people from Eastern Nagaland. Shah said, “We have held discussions with the ENPO and the agreement is in its final stage.”

Shah lauded steps by the BJP-led government at the Centre in curbing the violence in Nagaland. He said the steps by PM Modi have led to a decrease of 70 percent in violent incidents, a 60 percent reduction in security personnel casualties, and an 83 percent reduction in civilian deaths making the region safe.
