In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Indian National Congress won 8 out of the 20 parliamentary seat with 31.1 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 5 seats with a 21.6 percent vote share.

गंगा आरती के बाद पीएम मोदी ने एक जनसभा को भी संबोधित किया। मोदी ने कहा कि बनारस के फक्कड़पन में ये फकीर भी रम गया है। काशी ने मुझ में बहुत कुछ बदल दिया। पिछले पांच साल में किसी मंदिर पर आतंकी हमला नहीं हुआ। आतंकियों को बता दिया कि नया भारत सहता नहीं, मुंहतोड़ जवाब देता है।

पांच साल पहले जब काशी की धरती पर मैंने कदम रखा था, तब मैंने कहा था मां गंगा ने बुलाया है। काशी ने इतना प्यार दिया। लोग पूछते हैं कि मोदी ने काशी में क्या बदलाव किया, लेकिन मैं पूछना चाहता हूं कि काशी ने मुझमें क्या बदलाव किया।
