Background

Kanpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dr.Murli Manohar Joshi from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 222946 votes. The polling / voting in Kanpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 4 on 29 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Satyadev Pachuri and Samajwadi Party#s Ram Kumar

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Samajwadi Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Jagat Veer Singh Dron attained 335996 votes and SP's Surendra Mohan Agarwal bagged 199987 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Jagatveer Singh Dron attained 297550 votes and CPM's Subhashini Ali bagged 146460 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Jagatveer Singh Bron attained 193275 votes and INC's R.N. Pathak bagged 79654 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 56587 votes CPM candidate Subhashini Ali had got 174438 while BJP got Jagat Vir Singh votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Naresh Chandra Chaturvedi attained 214160 votes and JNP's Sayed Shahabuddin bagged 76791 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 75181 votes INC(I) candidate Arif Mohammad Khan had got 163230 while JNP got Maqbool Husain Kureshi votes.
