Gopalganj: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Janak Ram from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 286936 votes. The polling / voting in Gopalganj constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 6 on 12 May. The major contest is between Janata Dal (United)#s Dr. Varun Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal#s Surender Ram urf Mahant

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 22 out of the 40 parliamentary seat with 29.4 percent vote share while the Lok Janshakti Party managed to win just 6 seats with a 6.4 percent vote share.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Janata Dal (United) candidate defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate with a difference of 36124 votes. Here, Janata Dal (United) leader Raghunath Jha attained 365107 votes and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Kali Prasad Pandey bagged 328983 votes
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, SAP candidate had defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate by a margin of 68605 votes SAP candidate Abdul Ghafoor had got 322012 while RJD got Lal Babu Pd. Yadav votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Lal Babu Pd. Yadav attained 298356 votes and INC's Kali Prasad Pandey bagged 178860 votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Abdul Ghafoor attained 351243 votes and INC's Kali Prasad Pandey bagged 238593 votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Rajmangal Mishra attained 429563 votes and INC's Kali Prasad Panday bagged 235642 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Independent candidate defated LKD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, IND candidate Kali Prasad Pandey attained 287360 votes and LKD's Nagina Roy bagged 110268 votes.
