East Delhi: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Maheish Girri from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 190463 votes. The polling / voting in East Delhi constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 6 on 12 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Gautam Gambhir and Congress Party#s Arvinder Singh Lovely

East Delhi 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 7 out of the 7 parliamentary seat with 46.4 percent vote share while the Aam Aadmi Party managed to win just seats with a 34.9 percent vote share.

Out of the 23 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi, 20 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Maheish Girri of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Rajmohan Gandhi by a margin of 190463 votes.

• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sandeep Dikshit attained 669527 votes and BJP's Lal Bihari Tiwari bagged 439748 votes.
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 82760 votes BJP candidate Lal Bihari Tiwari had got 521434 while INC got Avm H.L.Kapur votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 45362 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Lal Bihari Tiwari attained 563083 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit bagged 517721 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate B.L. Sharma (Prem) attained 538655 votes and INC's Deep Chand Bandhu bagged 386156 votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 61825 votes BJP candidate B.L. Sharma Prem' had got 303141 while INC got H.K.L. Bhagat votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Independent candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate H. K. L. Bhagat attained 359602 votes and IND's Chand Ram bagged 183603 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate H.K.L.Bhagat attained 386150 votes and JNP's Kishore Lal bagged 73970 votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 87708 votes INC(I) candidate H.K.L. Bhagat had got 228727 while JNP got Kishore Lal votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Kishore Lal attained 240594 votes and INC's H.K.L. Bhagat bagged 107487 votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 74250 votes INC candidate H. K. L. Bhagat had got 146632 while BJS got Hardyal Devgun votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between BJS and INC here BJS candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 5616 votes.

મુખ્ય ચૂંટણી કમિશનર સુનીલ અરોડાએ પોતાના બંન્ને સાથી ચૂંટણી કમિશનરો અશોક લવાસા અને સુશીલ ચંદ્રા સાથે રાષ્ટ્રપતિને નવા ચૂંટાયેલા સાંસદોની યાદી સોંપી હતી. ચૂંટણી પંચે 'Due Constitution' રાષ્ટ્રપતિ સોંપ્યું હતું. જેમાં તમામ 542 સાંસદોના નામ છે.

રાષ્ટ્રપતિ રામનાથ કોવિંદે શનિવારે 16મી લોકસભા ભંગ કરવાના કેબિનેટના પ્રસ્તાવને મંજૂરી આપી દીધી હતી. 16મી લોકસભાનો કાર્યકાળ 3 જૂનના રોજ ખત્મ થઇ રહ્યો છે. તેની પ્રથમ બેઠક 4 જૂન 2014ના રોજ બોલાવવામાં આવી હતી.

વોર્કિંગ કમેટીની બેઠકમાં મીડિયા પર પણ આક્ષેપ લગાવવામાં આવ્યો. કૉંગ્રેસના નેતાઓએ કહ્યું કે મીડિયાએ એ જ બતાવ્યું જે સરકારે કહ્યું, ચૂંટણીમાં સરકારના મીડિયા તરીકે કામ કર્યું. સાથે તમામ નેતાઓએ ચૂંટણીમાં રાહુલ ગાંધીની આક્રમકતાની પ્રશંસા કરી.
