Dhenkanal: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Tathagata Satpathy from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the elections by a margin of 137340 votes. The polling / voting in Dhenkanal constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Rudra Narayan Pani and Biju Janata Dal#s Mahesh Sahoo

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Biju Janata Dal won 20 out of the 21 parliamentary seat with 44.1 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 21.5 percent vote share.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and Biju Janata Dal here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his Biju Janata Dal counterpart with a difference of 3674 votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Biju Janata Dal candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 32511 votes. Here, Biju Janata Dal leader Tathagata Satapathy attained 299156 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Kamakshya Prasad Singhdeo bagged 266645 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JD candidate by a margin of 86094 votes INC candidate Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo had got 269966 while JD got Adwait Prasad Singh votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JD candidate with a difference of 41686 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singhdeo Mahindr Bahadur attained 270123 votes and JD candidate Tathagata Satpathy bagged 228437 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Bhajaman Behra attained 336435 votes and INC's Raja Ramakhya Prasad Singhdeo bagged 213430 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo Mahindra Bahadur attained 295754 votes and JNP's Adwait Prasad Singh bagged 92181 votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP(S) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo Mahindra Bahadur attained 182036 votes and JNP(S)'s Sushil Kumar Patnaik bagged 51004 votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 44660 votes. Here, BLD leader Debendra Satpathy attained 143008 votes and INC candidate Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo Mahindra Bahadur bagged 98348 votes
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SWA candidate with a difference of 31659 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Devendra Satpathy attained 97491 votes and SWA candidate R. K. P. S. Mahindra Bahadur bagged 65832 votes
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SWA candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 88045 votes SWA candidate R.K.P.S.D.M. Bahadur had got 144806 while INC got M.M. Pradhan votes.
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated GP candidate by a margin of 52288 votes INC candidate Baishnab Charan Patnaik had got 90250 while GP got Raja Sankar Pratap Singh Deb Mahindra Bahadur votes.
• 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, GP candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 16596 votes. Here, GP leader Surendra Mohanty attained 92142 votes and INC candidate Braja Kishore Dhal bagged 75546 votes
• 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated SP candidate by a margin of 61792 votes INC candidate Niranjan Jena had got 133666 while SP got Jhuli Bhoi votes.
