UP Power Outage: Allahabad University Exams Postponed Due To Blackout Amid Ongoing Strike By Power Dept Employees; Check New Date
The Uttar Pradesh government has postponed exams of Allahabad University after the ongoing strike by workers from the electricity department caused a blackout in the area.
New Delhi: Graduation and post-graduation exams of Allahabad University in Prayagraj got postponed as the workers from the electricity department went on a strike causing a power blackout in the region. Since the exams were being held in online mode, it was not possible to continue with it. The exams have now been pushed to October 20th, 2020 by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Power employees have gone on an indefinite strike protesting against the privatization of electricity. A call for a complete boycott was given by the UP Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti to protest against the proposed privatisation of the Varanasi discom.

According to an IANS report, "After the UPPCL management turned down our reform proposal, we have asked all the power personnel to begin the full day work boycott from Monday as per the pre-declared plan," said Shailendra Dubey, chairman of the All-India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF).
While essential services like hospitals have been exempted from this boycott the graduation and post-graduation exams that were meant to be held today had to be postponed to October 20th.
Meanwhile, the state government is maintaining its stand on the issue and has warned that there will be strict action against protestors if they tried to disrupt the power supply.
In the report, a government spokesman said all preparations were in place to deal with the protestors.
"The government has identified critical power stations for beefing up security around them and also chalked out an action plan to hand over power transmission and distribution system to alternative staff if needed.
