DUSU Elections Result 2023: ABVP Wins 3 Posts, NSUI Wins VP Post, Tushar Dedha Elected President

The results of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) polls have been announced.

New Delhi: In the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured three out of the four central panel posts. Tushar Dedha from ABVP won the position of President, Aprajita secured the post of Secretary, and Sachin Baisla elected as the Joint Secretary. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidate Abhi Dahiya won the Vice President post. The voter turnout was 42 percent with around 1 lakh eligible students casting their votes. This year, the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election was held on September 22, marking a three-year gap since the last election in 2019. The elections were postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while concerns about potential disruptions to the academic calendar led to their non-conduct in 2022.

The campus was under heavy police presence and various organizations made last-minute efforts to garner votes, as reported by PTI. Prof. Chander Shekhar, the chief election officer for the polls, reported a 42 percent voter turnout, surpassing the 2019 figure of 39.90 percent but falling short of the nearly 11-year-high recorded in 2018 at 44.46 percent and 2017 at 42.80 percent.

The university campuses were filled with vibrant scenes as young voters engaged in political discussions at tea stalls, queued up excitedly to cast their votes, and campaigned fervently with roads adorned by campaign materials.

The voting process for students attending day classes concluded at 1 pm, while those in evening classes had the opportunity to cast their votes until 7.30 pm.

These elections hold importance for many organizations aligned with political parties as they serve as a barometer for assessing the sentiments of young voters. This year's elections carry significance as they precede the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

For voters, the core issues at stake encompassed concerns such as fee hikes, the dearth of affordable accommodations, heightened security during college fests, and the provision of menstrual leaves.
