NEET-UG Results 2024: SC Refuses To Stay Re-Test For 1563 Students, Lists All Pleas For July 8

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay NEET-UG retest for 1563 students and listed the matter for further hearing on July 8.

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) for the Under-Graduate (UG) retest for 1563 students and listed the matter for further hearing on July 8. The top court was hearing a batch of fresh petitions seeking cancellation of the retest scheduled on Sunday. The top court also stayed the all the pending proceeding in across High Courts and listed them for hearing on July 8.

Today, a batch of petitioners told the top court that they also faced delay in centres and they are also should be granted an opportunity to appear for NEET-UG retest. The top court said that their petitions will also be now heard on July 8. The top court in the previous hearing had said that if after hearing the petitions on July 8, they felt there was a need for another retest they may order that as well.

The NEET-UG medical admissions has been in controversy since the day the exams were conducted (May 5). From allegations of paper leak, delay at exam centers, tampering of OMR sheets, malpractices in exams, to incorrectly framed questions, the National Testing Agency (NTA) responsible for conducting the medical entrance exam has faced not only allegations but also several cases across courts in India. Over 24 lakhs students had attempted the country-wide exam.

The students who are also aspiring doctors have taken to streets to protest the lack of transparency in the way the reported irregularities have been dealt with by the NTA. They seek a re-examination for everyone and not just 1563 students who were awarded grace marks over delay at the exam centres.

The Centre last week told the Supreme Court that it has decided to cancel the grace marks awarded to1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates in NEET-UG 2024 results. Centre adds that these 1563 students will be given an option to take a re-test or their result will be calculated on marks obtained without grace marks. The Supreme Court accepted this proposal after confirming with petitioners that they do not have any problem with this.

The Supreme Court on Thursday also ordered that all petitions alleging paper leak and unfair means to be tagged together and be heard on July 8 and sought NTA's response on issues other than compensatory marks.

The court while dictating the order had said that it has been told that the NTA committee has decided that the score cards of 1563 students will be cancelled and they will be granted opportunity to give a retest. In case they don't wish to take a retest, their marks will be calculated after deducting grace marks in the examination.
