A new study shows 1 in 4 Indian Gen Z favors new-age careers, with 62% willing to give up hobbies to achieve their dreams.

New Delhi: A recent study, The Quest Report 2024, has revealed that one in four Gen Z respondents in India is gravitating towards emerging job fields such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and content creation. Additionally, 43% of these young individuals are willing to sacrifice work-life balance to achieve career success. The report also highlights that only 9% of respondents are interested in pursuing entrepreneurship, preferring the stability and security of traditional career paths.

The report is organised into three primary areas: the drive and motivation of Gen Z Questers to pursue their dreams, the obstacles that challenge their passion journey, and the career choices that fuel their interests.

Key Highlights from the Report:

  • Gap Year Empowerment: 91% of Indian Gen Z students believe that taking a gap year can help them pursue their dreams and aspirations.
  • New-Age Careers: 1 in 4 Indian students is drawn to emerging fields like data analysis, AI, cybersecurity, and content creation.
  • Financial Barriers: 46% of Indian respondents identify financial constraints as a major barrier to pursuing their chosen careers, yet over 90% remain confident in achieving their dreams.
  • Gender Disparity: 8 out of 10 Indian respondents view gender disparity as the biggest obstacle to their success.
  • Entrepreneurial Hesitancy: Only 9% of Indian Gen Zs are inclined toward entrepreneurship, preferring the stability and security of traditional career paths.
  • Corporate Career Preference: 19% of Indian youth favor career advancement within large organizations over startups.
  • Hustle Mentality: Indian youth are twice as likely to take proactive initiatives compared to their global peers.
  • Value of Mentorship: 49% of Indian students believe that mentorship by experts is crucial to achieving their aspirations.
  • Work-Life Balance Trade-off: 43% of Indian and 46% of global respondents are willing to sacrifice work-life balance to succeed in their careers.
  • Learning from Failure: 65% of Indian Questers view failure as a learning opportunity, with 60% believing it propels them toward their dreams.
  • Education and Employment: 51% of respondents intend to pursue higher studies to support their goals, while 32% see relevant jobs as essential to achieving their dreams.
  • Sacrificing Hobbies: 62% of Indian youth are willing to give up their hobbies and other interests to achieve their dreams.
