Water Enters Red Fort, Roads Submerged: Scary Videos Surface As Overflowing Yamuna Floods Delhi

The raging river has inundated several areas of the national capital, impacted public and private infrastructure, road and rail traffic, and caused immense hardships to people living near the river.

New Delhi: Several scary visuals have emerged after several key areas of Delhi were submerged in flood water as the water level of the Yamuna River touched a record high on Thursday. The level of Yamuna reached 208.53 metres at 10 am, breaking a 45-year-old record. 

The raging river has inundated several areas of the national capital, impacted public and private infrastructure, road and rail traffic, and caused immense hardships to people living near the river. 

The incessant rain in northern India has caused widespread devastation and loss of lives in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Punjab. Parts of Uttar Pradesh have also been affected by the heavy downpour.

Here is a look at some of the alarming visuals from the national capital-

The first visual is from Kashmere Gate where people were seen sailing through knee-deep water after the rising Yamuna River entered the city. A dozen National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Delhi to tackle the flood situation.

The second video is from the Yamuna bazaar area where trucks and buses were submerged in water after the rise in water level in the Yamuna caused a flood-like situation in several parts of the national capital.

Red Fort, one of the most iconic landmarks in Delhi, was submerged in flood water as the level of Yamuna increased on Thursday.

Flood water entered Delhi's Sushruta Trauma Centre at Metcalf Road. MD Dr Suresh Kumar told ANI that 40 patients admitted in the hospital, including three on ventilators, were shifted to the LNJP hospital.
