Minor Wrestler Who Accused WFI Chief Of Sexual Harassment Did Not Oppose Police's Closure Report, Court Told

The alleged victim and her father testified in an in-chamber procedure before Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor that they were happy with the police investigation in the case.

The minor wrestler who accused departing WFI chairman and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment did not contest the Delhi Police's closure report in court on Tuesday, according to the public prosecutor, news agency PTI reported. The alleged victim and her father testified in an in-chamber procedure before Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor that they were happy with the police investigation and had no objections to the Delhi Police's report in the case.

According to public prosecutor Atul Srivastava, the court delayed its decision on whether to accept the police report seeking termination of the case for September 6 after recording their comments in the issue.

On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a report in court requesting that the minor wrestler's case be dismissed.

Earlier last month, the minor wrestler who had accused the WFI chief of sexual harassment revised her account. Her father, the complainant, also claimed in a series of media interviews last month that he purposefully filed a bogus police charge of sexual harassment under the POCSO Act as a vindictive move after his daughter lost a match.

Previously, the Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against the WFI chief and another accused, Vinod Tomar. The lawsuit involved allegations of sexual harassment by female wrestlers, and if convicted, the BJP legislator may face up to three years in prison.

Earlier this year, India's best wrestlers staged a large protest demanding Singh's resignation and a restructure of the Wrestling Federation of India. After a chargesheet was filed against the six-time MP, they called off the protest in the national capital.
