Delhi: Labourer Dies After Falling From 5th Floor Of Under-Construction Building Days Before Daughter's Marriage

The AAP MLA Somnath Bharti has alleged negligence on part of a builder. He said that the builder did not fulfill his responsibility of providing safety gear to the labourer.

A man died after falling from the fifth floor of an under-construction building in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, on Saturday evening. The labourer was on the floor without any safety gear and fell to the ground which had materials for the construction. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti, had reached the site to take stock of the situation, while speaking to the media, expressed his sympathies. He said that people come from various states like Bihar to earn some money for their families. The AAP MLA has alleged negligence on part of a builder. He said that the builder did not fulfill his responsibility of providing safety gear to the labourer.

He said that the labourer has left behind his wife, a son and five daughters one of whom was to get married on August 12. He was going to leave on Sunday for the occasion. Bharti said, the man was plastering on the fifth floor without any safety gear, which is something a builder is obligated to provide, however, the builder did not provide the labourer with any gear. 

Bharti said that he was at the site where the labourer died and saw that the man fell to the ground and was sustained injured by all the stones on the ground which killed him. He said that this is the clear indication of all the shortcomings.

He further added that he spoke to the police who told him that this was sanctioned by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) when he spoke to the MCD they said the same.
