DU Student Stabbed To Death: Father Breaks Down On Camera, AAP Blames Centre — Top Points

Reacting to the incident, the AAP claimed that crimes have increased in the national capital and accused the BJP-led Centre of boosting the morale of criminals.

New Delhi: Two men were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of a student at Delhi University's South Campus, which took place on Sunday.

Reacting to the incident, the AAP claimed that crimes have increased in the national capital and accused the BJP-led Centre of boosting the morale of criminals.

Earlier on Sunday, a first-year student of Delhi University was allegedly stabbed to death outside Aryabhatta College in the South Campus after he objected to a fellow student harassing his girlfriend.

AAP's chief spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, said at a press conference, "Why is it happening in Delhi again and again? Law and order in Delhi come under a government that boosts the morale of criminals. Criminals who are declared absconders by the police appear on BJP forums after a few months." The AAP leader further said, "They are not scared of the law. We have been asking the L-G about how many PCR vans have increased in Delhi and how many police stations he has visited. But he does not answer."

Notably, the Lt Governor has control over public order, land, and police in the national capital.

Meanwhile, the victim's father broke down on Monday while talking to reporters.

Here are the most recent updates:

  • The two accused that have been arrested were identified as Rahul who is a first-year BA student and Haroon who is Rahul's friend and a school dropout.

  • As per police, the accused came to seek revenge over a brawl which occurred last week, reported news agency ANI.

  • DCW chief Swati Maliwal told ANI, "Law & order situation in Delhi has completely crumbled. Nobody is safe in Delhi, be it the rich or the poor, be it a resident of a posh locality or slum. A 19-year-old DU student stood outside his college with his female friend, a few people molested her. The boy attempted to save her but he was stabbed to death. Elsewhere, two women are shot dead. What is going on?...Centre & Delhi Govt together need to remedy the situation immediately."

  • Speaking on the recent murders in the national capital, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj told ANI,  "Today, the people of Delhi are frightened. Can't LG sahib see the father of the young man crying after the murder of his son? Did the LG ever visit the family of the woman who was dragged (by car in Kanjhawala) for 20 km? Delhi Police is busy providing security to VIPs. The required number of police personnel is not deputed to police stations. The problem is not with Delhi Police but the leadership."

  • The victim's father while talking about the call he got regarding his son getting stabbed, said, "We got a call around 12 pm that our son (Nikhil) had been stabbed and he has been admitted to a hospital. After we reached the hospital, we found that our son was dead. He was a student at Aryabhatta College." He further added that Delhi Police hasn't told him anything yet.

  • Manoj C, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Delhi, while talking to news agency ANI said, "When Police reached there (crime scene), it was found that the victim is Nikhil Chauhan - a first-year student of the School of Open Learning. Further investigation revealed that a week ago, Chauhan had a brawl with Rahul and Yash. Yesterday, Rahul, Yash, and others came here to seek revenge. They stabbed Nikhil Chauhan. We have arrested two people - Rahul and his associate Haroon. We have identified others as well. We will arrest them too."

  • According to PTI, the victim was a resident of Paschim Vihar and was pursuing BA (Hons) in Political Science from the School of Open Learning (SOL).
