IMD Weather Update: Light Rain Likely In Delhi Over The Weekend, Downpour To Continue In Uttarakhand

Between August 17 and 23, the maximum temperature is looming between 35 degree Celsius and 37 degree Celsius.

Most of the country is experiencing major weather changes. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), over the course of the next week, the national capital can expect cloudy skies and light rain. On August 19 and 20, light rain has been forecast and the weather will likely remain pleasant on these days. On Friday, the minimum temperature will be 27 degrees Celsius and the maximum 36 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 36.7 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average, the minimum temperature on Thursday settled at 27.5 degrees Celsius, one notch above the normal. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Thursday settled at 131, which falls in the moderate category.

Between August 17 and 23, the maximum temperature is looming between 35 degree Celsius and 37 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature is between 26 and 28 degree Celsius in Delhi, according to the IMD. During these days there is a possibility of drizzle and light rain. 

Between 1980 and 2022, the annual temperature in Delhi increased along with the humidity. Earlier, the humid days were between July and August but now it is between May and September. 

After heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the water has started to rise again in the Hathnikund barrage which puts Delhi in the danger of floods again.

The weather agency also said that light to heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh on August 18 as well as between August 21 to 23 and West Uttar Pradesh between August 21 to 23.

Meanwhile, the death toll in rain-battered Himachal Pradesh rose to 74 as another body was pulled out of the rubble of a Shiva temple here and two more people were killed in Chamba district. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 24, 217 persons have died in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh.

The Indian Army, Air Force and other rescue personnel evacuated 309 people from the flood-affected area in Kangra district's Fatehpur and Pong Dam in Indora.

IMD on Thursday also predicted rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till August 23. "Light or moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall or thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall activity is very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on 17th and 18th and Telangana on 18th and 19th August," it further said.
