Winter Vacation In Delhi, Noida Schools Extended Due To Cold Weather — Check New Dates

Delhi-NCR: The winter vacations in Delhi and Noida schools have been extended in view of cold weather conditions and the forecast of more foggy days

In response to the prevailing extreme cold weather conditions, the Directorate of Education announced on Saturday the extension of winter vacations in Delhi schools until January 10. Originally the vacation was slated to conclude on Saturday, but classes will now resume on Wednesday, January 11. The decision comes amid a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) due to anticipated dense fog, light rainfall, and a further drop in temperatures in the coming days, news agency PTI reported.

A statement from the Directorate of Education instructed all heads of schools in Delhi to disseminate the information among stakeholders promptly. The directive affects both government and private schools. The Directorate of Education stated, "Due to severe cold weather conditions, all government and private schools in Delhi will remain closed till January 10 (Wednesday)."

Noida: Schools Shut Till January 14 Up To Class 8

Meanwhile, in the adjoining Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the administration has taken a similar precautionary measure. District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar issued an order on Saturday, declaring holidays for students up to Class 8 in all schools in Noida and Greater Noida until January 14. The order applies to schools affiliated with various boards, including the state board, CBSE, ICSE, IB, and others, PTI reported.

District Magistrate Maneesh Kumar Verma's instructions preceded the announcement as a decision was taken considering the dense fog and extreme cold.

As per PTI, District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Dharmveer Singh specified that, during this period, classes for students in Classes 9-12 will be held from 10 am to 3 pm. The minimum temperature in Gautam Buddh Nagar was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with the IMD forecasting temperatures to fluctuate between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius over the next six days.

Delhi, Noida Weather Forecast

The IMD has issued a cold wave and fog warning for western Uttar Pradesh, encompassing Gautam Buddh Nagar. The forecast predicts cold wave conditions along with fog on Saturday and Sunday, followed by thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and fog on Tuesday.

In Delhi, Saturday witnessed moderate fog in the morning, with the maximum temperature settling at 15.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. Train services were affected, with 14 Delhi-bound trains experiencing delays due to fog, according to officials.

The weather department anticipates mainly clear skies and cold to severe cold day conditions on Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 6 and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 321, categorising it as 'very poor,' according to Central Pollution Control Board data at 9 am.
