Will It Rain In Delhi Today? Here's What IMD Says About Onset Of Monsoon In National Capital

Delhi and NCR region along with parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall today, as per India Meteorological Department.

The national capital is expected receive a spell of relief on Thursday after days of sweltering heatwave that caused several deaths in the region.

According to India Meteorological Department, light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour would occur over and adjoining areas of Seelampur, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar, Akshardham in Delhi, Gannaur and Sonipat in Haryana, and Kandhla, Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Modinagar, Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, and Siyana in Uttar Pradesh. 

The weather department also said that Alipur, Burari, Seelampur, Shahadra, Lodi Road, Lajpat Nagar, and Tughlakabad areas of Delhi could also receive light to moderate intensity rainfall along with NCR areas of Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad. 

While the weather department has yet not shared the date of the onset of southwest monsoon in the region, the national capital and the adjoining areas are likely to receive rainfall for rest of the week. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert.

For the next seven days, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive fairly widespread and widespread rainfall. 

After a spell of punishing heatwave, it was only last week that the temperatures in the city dropped below 40 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius, 3.7 notches above the season's normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per the weather agency, monsoon is likely to hit Delhi around the end of this month.
