Delhi Pollution: No Relief For Residents As Toxic Air Chokes Capital, AQI 'Severe' In Many Parts

The overall air quality in the national capital was recorded in the 'very poor' category on Wednesday morning.

Delhi Air Pollution: As the issue of air pollution continues to trouble Delhi after Diwali, there seems to be no respites for the residents in the city. The overall air quality in the national capital was recorded in the "very poor" category on Wednesday morning, according to SAFAR. However, the air quality remained in the "severe" category in several areas of the city, as per the Central Pollution Control Board. According to CPCB, air quality across Delhi continued to be in the 'Severe' category. The AQI was recorded in Anand Vihar at 430, in RK Puram at 417, in Punjabi Bagh at 423, and in Jahangirpuri at 428.

In the visuals shared by the news agency ANI, the people were seen working out at India Gate and Lodhi Road and carrying on with their daily chores amid a layer of haze in the air in the city.

On Tuesday, air pollution in the national capital approached the "severe" level due to bad weather conditions. The 24-hour average AQI in the city was 397 at 4 p.m. As per IQAir, a Swiss company that specialises in air quality monitoring, Delhi was the most polluted city in the world on Tuesday.

The issue of stubble burning has remained a matter of concern for the national capital and adjacent states. On Tuesday, stubble burning accounted for 12% of air pollution in the city, according to a technique created by the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology to assess the contribution of different pollution sources. It is likely to be 14% on Wednesday and 6% on Thursday.
