Delhi Weather: Capital Blanketed By Dense Fog As Mercury Settles At 6.8° C

The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 6.8 degrees Celsius as dense fog blanketed the national capital.

Delhi woke up to another cold morning with a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius as a dense layer of fog covered the national capital on Monday morning. The capital has been recording a constant dip in the temperature as winter tightened its grip.

According to a resident, the temperature felt lower compared to the last two days, reported ANI. The dense fog significantly prolonged travel times, making it more challenging to reach destinations due to reduced visibility and the accompanying cold conditions.

According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi's Safdarjung area stands at 7.1 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 1 degree below the usual for this period. Forecasts suggest a continuation of this cold spell, with the minimum temperature anticipated to fluctuate between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius throughout this week. Friday, December 22, is expected to witness the lowest temperature at 5 degrees Celsius, indicating a further dip in the ongoing cold wave.

People were seen jogging on the Kartavya Path amid the dense fog.

The IMD noted, 'Minimum temperatures ranging from 5-10°C prevail over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, western parts of Gangetic West Bengal, north interior Odisha, and Bihar.'

Similarly, dense fog blanketed Punjab's Bathinda on Monday as cold grips the city.

On Sunday, Delhi's Safdurjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels oscillated between 35 per cent and 100 per cent, the weather bulletin showed.

Haryana's Hisar recorded a minimum temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius, Karnal 6.6 degrees Celsius, Rohtak 7.4 degrees Celsius and Narnaul 7.6 degrees Celsius, on Sunday. Ambala recorded a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius and Kurukshetra 8.3 degrees Celsius.
