On February 4, investigative agencies in Jammu and Kashmir provided specific information indicating that Riyaz Ahmad, a resident of Village New Gabra Tehsil Karnah in District Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, was sought in connection with the recent terrorist module case uncovered by them.
This case, originating on January 27, led to the arrest of five individuals and the confiscation of weapons, ammunition, and other damning evidence, ANI's report stated.
The arms and ammunition had been dispatched by terrorist handlers affiliated with the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK)-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, alias Shakoor, and Qazi Mohammad Khushal, operating from across the border.
Intelligent indicated that the accused Riyaz Ahmad who was on the run is expected to arrive at the New Delhi Railway Station shortly in the early hours of Tuesday morning, ANI reported.
Anticipating the severity of the situation, a team led by Inspector Vishwanath Paswan, SHO/NDRS, comprising SI Naseeb Singh, ASI Yadram, ASI Sushil, HC Jaiveer, and HC Gaurav, was swiftly deployed at all entry and exit points of New Delhi Railway Station.
"The alert staff acted promptly, identified the alleged Riyaz Ahmad in the crowd and apprehended him while he was trying to flee from Exit Gate No. 1 of New Delhi Railway Station in the early hours," also said the DCP.
Subsequently, the accused underwent extensive interrogation, during which he disclosed that he and his companion Altaf had boarded the Mahakaushal Express from Jabalpur and arrived at Hazarat Nizamuddin railway station around 3:00 PM on February 3, 2024. Afterward, they hired an auto to reach NDRS, from where Riyaz Ahmad intended to relocate to another hideout, the report stated.
Riyaz Ahmad is suspected of having received a shipment of arms and ammunition from Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather, both of whom were previously apprehended by Jammu and Kashmir Police. Both the accused, Riyaz Ahmad and Altaf, retired from the Indian Army on January 31, 2023. A mobile phone along with a SIM card was also recovered from Riyaz Ahmad.
