Delhi Flood: AAP Sharpens Attack On Haryana Govt Over Hathnikund Barrage Water Release

Delhi PWD Minister Atishi hit out at the Haryana government for allegedly releasing all the discharged water from the Hathnikund barrage only towards Delhi and not a single drop towards UP.

Delhi PWD Minister Atishi launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Haryana government for releasing a massive amount of water from the Hathnikund barrage towards the national capital. While talking to news agency ANI, she said that all the water from Hathnikund Barrage was being released only for Delhi and not a single drop of water was released into the canals going to UP and Haryana from there. She further added that Haryana will have to answer for this.

While talking to ANI, she said, "Haryana will have to answer why all the water was released towards Delhi only. Why not a single drop was being released towards UP and Haryana? If the water would have been released towards those states as well then the Delhi flooding might have been avoided."

She further said, "Everyone knows that the flooding occurred due to the water that was released from Haryana because not a single drop of rain fell in Delhi for the past four days. So the water that has flooded the houses and streets of Delhi is only and only of Haryana.... If water was only released in Delhi then it means that the flooding in Delhi could have been clearly avoided.

NK Ranga, Sub-Divisional Officer, Hathni Kund barrage, Haryana's Yamuna Nagar says, "Water is released into Yamuna river after the level of water at the barrage here reaches 1 lakh cusecs. If the level is below this, then water is released on-demand."

AAP Alleges Haryana Of 'Manufacturing' Delhi Floods

The AAP on Friday hit out at the Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government, accusing it of "manufacturing" the Delhi floods. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the Haryana government did not release any water for five days from July 9 and then "diverted all water towards Delhi".

"It has not rained in Delhi for 3 days, then what is the reason for the flood? The reason for this is the deep conspiracy hatched by the BJP. The hatred hidden in Modi ji's mind comes out in such incidents. CM Kejriwal extends support to any state facing a crisis. But today Delhi is witnessing floods without rain. I say with full responsibility that this flood is sponsored," he remarked addressing a presser.

He said water from Hathinikund Barrage goes to Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi and according to him, from July 9 onward all the water was released towards Delhi. "Had this water been released evenly, there would have been no flood situation in Delhi today. Why is BJP doing this? Delhi has seven BJP MPs. It would have been better if they appealed to Haryana that all the water should not be released towards Delhi," the AAP leader added, citing a 'log sheet'.

BJP Responds

Haryana Agriculture Minister, Jai Parkash Dalal said, "We don't have any dam, the water that comes flows down to Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, and then goes down the ocean...Aam Aadmi Party tries to evade its duties... The water flow increased earlier as well but, the Yamuna basin was broad earlier, now illegal possessions and constructions are done alongside the Yamuna which led to its shrinking and high water level... The root cause behind the sinking of Delhi is illegal possessions."
