Fog Affects Train Schedule In Delhi As North India Continues To Reel Under Cold Wave

Dense fog caused 24 trains heading towards Delhi to be delayed, the national capital had been under the influence of cold day conditions for the past few days.

Cold weather persisted in Delhi on Thursday, leading to the delay of 24 trains heading towards the city due to dense fog. Delhi's Safdarjung and Lodhi Road recorded 5.8 and 5.6 degrees Celsius minimum temperatures respectively. The India Meteorological Department reported that the national capital has been under the influence of cold day conditions for the past few days, issuing a 'Yellow' alert for such conditions in certain parts of the city on Wednesday.

People were seen taking the help of bonfires to keep themselves warm in the national capital early in the morning. 

While some took the help of night shelters to shield themselves from the biting cold. The night shelters in Delhi are aimed at providing a refuge to homeless people who have nowhere else to go in the cold. These shelters, designed to accommodate the homeless, provide blankets, beds, hot water, and food to those in need.

On Wednesday, Delhi experienced cold day conditions, with the maximum temperature settling at 15.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below the normal. The minimum temperature recorded at 9.05 am was 7.1 degrees Celsius, typical for this time of the year.

The national capital witnessed moderate fog in isolated pockets while the sky remained mainly clear during the day. In Delhi, winter vacation for schools was also extended till January 12 for primary classes in view of the cold weather conditions. 

On Tuesday, Delhi experienced its coldest day this winter, with the minimum temperature dropping to 5.3°C, according to the IMD.
