Delhi Battles Bitter Cold As Mercury Dips In North India, Several Trains, Flights Delayed

In Delhi, homeless people are finding it difficult to tackle the chilling cold. They are taking refuge at night shelters in different areas.

New Delhi: The entire north India continues to be under the grip of a severe cold wave making it difficult for people to battle the freezing conditions. The minimum temperature, as recorded by Delhi's Safdarjung observatory, was 4.6 Degrees Celsius while at Palam, it was 6 degrees Celsius.

The falling temperatures are a result of a fresh spell of snowfall in the upper northern India regions. Kurfi in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall on Monday making it a visual delight for tourists.

However, in Delhi, homeless people are finding it difficult to tackle the chilling cold. They are taking refuge at night shelters in different areas. The manager of one such shelter home said that facilities are being provided to all the people who are coming to night shelters.

"Many facilities are given here including blankets, mattresses, three-time meals, and medicines," Shailendra Singh, Manager, Shelter home told ANI.

Several trains have also been reported running late due to persisting fog and cold wave conditions in the region. Indian railways informed that 15 trains are running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog.

Several flights also got delayed due to fog conditions at the Delhi airport.
