Caught On Camera: Delhi Building Collapses 12 Days After Evacuation

An 'unsafe' building in Delhi's Bhajanpura area collapsed on Wednesday. It was evacuated 12 days ago.

A building in the Bhajanpura area of Delhi collapsed on Wednesday afternoon. Luckily, no injury or fatality was reported in the incident as the building had been vacated 12 days prior after being deemed unsafe.

The police reported that the fire department received a call at 3:05 pm, and promptly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations.

A video shared by news agency ANI depicts the building collapsing while individuals can be heard screaming.

Details on the incident and the subsequent rescue operations are awaited.

This event follows a similar occurrence on March 1, when a four-story building caught fire and collapsed in north Delhi's Roshanara road. During the rescue operations, at least three firemen sustained minor injuries, and around 50 firefighters narrowly escaped harm.

Delhi Fire Services Chief Atul Garg stated, "We immediately rushed 18 fire tenders to the spot. The fire broke out in the basement and spread to the ground floor. As it spread further, we worried that it may engulf the entire building and nearby houses (in the congested neighbourhood), and so we sent nine more tenders."

As per the DFS, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the basement.
