Bomb Threats Received By Delhi University's Lady Shri Ram, Venkateswara College
The Delhi Fire Service said that two DU colleges, Lady Shri Ram and Sri Venkateswara received bomb threat calls. The authorities are on-site to address the situation.
The Delhi Fire Service on Thursday said that Delhi Univeristy's colleges, Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College received bomb threat calls, news agency ANI reported. The authorities are on-site to address the situation.
"Calls were received regarding bomb threats at Lady Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College. Fire tenders, Delhi police at the spot," the Delhi Fire Service said.
In response to the incident, the University Hostel for Women issued a notice stating that the hostel main gate would remain closed for the guests as per the direction of the Proctor. "All residents of University hostel for Women are hereby informed that the hostel main gate will remain close for the Guests as per the direction of Proctor, University of Delhi due to news of bomb threat in the University. The gate will be open as the situation got normal," it said.
The incident follows a hoax threat received by the Union Home Ministry office the previous day. The threats to educational institutions and government offices add to a string of similar incidents in Delhi-NCR.
Earlier on Thursday, three hotels in Bengaluru, including a five-star establishment, were also targetted by bomb threats.
The wave of such threats began on April 30 when Chacha Nehru Hospital in Delhi received a threat, followed by 150 schools on May 1. These threats were traced back to a Russia-based mailing service company.
Subsequently, on May 12, twenty hospitals, the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and the Northern Railways' CPRO office in Delhi received bomb threats via emails originating from a Cyprus-based mailing service company.
On May 14, seven Delhi hospitals, and Tihar Jail also received similar threats from the same source.
The recent threat to the Home Ministry office, received via email, raised alarm as it warned of an impending explosion, claiming that a bomb had been planted with the premises.
