'Awareness Campaigns And Drones For Sprinkling': Delhi Minister On Preparations As Dengue Cases Increase

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the health department and DIP will run awareness campaigns on Dengue as cases see a rise in the region.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday elaborated on how the government is preparing itself in the wake of the recent rise in Dengue cases after a flood in the national capital. Bhardwaj said that the health department and Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP) have been asked to run campaigns to make people aware of Dengue and drones will be used to sprinkle mosquito repellants in different areas. He added that he will inspect hospitals from Monday in the national capital to ascertain that they are fully prepared for admission if Dengue cases see further increase.

On Friday, Bhardwaj said that genome sequencing of 20 dengue-positive samples was done and 19 of them had severe strain type-2, as per PTI

"We have given instructions to the Health Department and DIP to run a campaign regarding Dengue in schools and among common people. Hospitals will be made ready for dengue cases. I also had a discussion with MCD Commissioner regarding the same today," the AAP minister said.

He expressed concern that some people are not taking the Dengue infection scare seriously as they are of the view that it comes in and around the month of September.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed the health department to reserve beds for dengue patients and ensure a stock of medicines in hospitals and mohalla clinics, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj informed on Friday. The statement came after CM Arvind Kejriwal chaired a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, also attended by Mayor Shelly Oberoi. As monsoon rains continue to batter the city, the dengue and malaria cases have surged.

A total of 187 dengue cases have been reported in the national capital this year till July 22 -- the highest for this period since 2018, according to a civic body report released on Monday.

The Delhi Health Minister informed that a fine for mosquito breeding has been raised to Rs 1,000 for households and Rs 5,000 for commercial establishments amid the dengue spread. The meeting aimed to devise a comprehensive strategy to combat the rising dengue cases in the city.
