Delhi AIIMS Fire: The blaze broke out in the endoscopy room of AIIMS in south Delhi.
Delhi AIIMS Fire: A fire broke out at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on Monday in the endoscopy room. Eight fire tenders have been rushed to the hospital. All people have been evacuated, ANI reported.
Visuals showed smoke billowing from the endoscopy room, which is located above the emergency ward, on the second floor of the old OPD.
The fire services received a call at 12 noon regarding the blaze on the second floor at the old Raj Kumari OPD of the main AIIMS building. The fire was brought under control after 40 minutes.
"A fire call was received from the emergency ward of AIIMS at 11.54 hours. Total 8 fire tenders rushed to the site," Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg told reporters.
Sources told PTI that the fire led to temporary suspension of endoscopy, emergency and diagnostics services in the old OPD building.
Sources at the hospital told PTI that water from the underground water tank at AIIMS was also used to douse the flames.
Images showed the endoscopy room severely damaged by the fire. These pictures showed all the equipment, files, tables, and other materials charred.
"31 patients of AB-2 ward were shifted to ICU and AB-7 ward. 70 patients were also shifted from emergency area to other facilities. No casualties/injuries were reported and later confirmed with the security control room. All efforts are being made to bring back normalcy in medical services at the earliest," AIIMS said in a statement.
A senior doctor told PTI, "When the fire broke out, two patients were undergoing a procedure in the endoscopy room. These two patients along with around 80 others in the waiting area were evacuated."
Doctors, nursing staff and guards had to break some of the glass windows on the second floor to allow the smoke to escape.
In 2021, a fire broke out in a room adjacent to the operation theatre of the Emergency Department in AIIMS. However, no one was injured.
The blaze erupted at 5.04 am in the storeroom adjacent to the OT and seven fire tenders were rushed to AIIMS. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.
