Hyderabad: A man disguised in a burqa, accompanied by his associate wearing a helmet, on Thursday attempted to rob a jewellery shop in Medchal, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad. However, they were forced to leave empty-handed as the shop owner and his son foiled the robbery attempt at their shop, even after a violent attack by the robber, NDTV reported.

The burqa-clad man stabbed the owner and left him injured, but the jewellers' attentiveness saved their lives and prevented robebry at their. The entire episode was captured on the shop's CCTV.

The shop owner, Sesharam, sustained a deep wound near his left collar bone after being stabbed by the robber, but is now out of danger, Times of India reported, adding that the police suspect the robbery attempt was carried out by an interstate gang.

The men barged into the shop to rob it at around 1:45 PM on June 20. While the burqa-clad man attacked Sesharam immediately after entering the shop, his accomplice began collecting jewellery and cash.

However, the shop owner's quick thinking, despite his injuries and bleeding and his son's timely intervention, prevented the theft.

His son, Suresh, begn crying out loud for help after which he began throwing chairs at the robbers. This forced them to flee the shop, leaving behind the stolen jewellery and cash, NDTV reported.

Before the police could reach the shop and nab them, the robbers escaped on a motorcycle, fleeing the spot.

In the CCTV footage, Sesharam, the shop owner, can be seen running after the robbers outside his shop, while they attempt to flee on their motorcycle.

Suresh can also be seen running out of the shop with a chair, which he threw at the burqa-clad robber, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle.

What's shocking is that the robbery happened merely 25 meters from the local police station.

Besides, around 25 CCTV cameras were removed from the area due to the ongoing construction of a flyover nearby, leaving only the shop's CCTV footage as evidence. The robbers also wore gloves to avoid leaving behind any fingerprints.

Senior Hyderabad police officer Narsimha Reddy stated that specialised teams were formed to track down the suspected duo.

Police also stated that the robbers used Hindi inside the shop during the robbery attempt, which suggested they could be associated with the Bawariya gang that is notorious for robbery and snatching cases across Hyderabad, the report noted.
