52-Year-Old Man Rapes 9-Year-Old Girl In North Delhi, Dumps Body In Canal

Delhi Crime News: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered in north Delhi's Swaroop Nagar, with the accused confessing to the crimes after meeting a road accident.

In a shocking incident, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered in north Delhi's Swaroop Nagar area, the police informed. The Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 363 (kidnapping) and launched teams to apprehend the accused, identified as Sanjeev Rana, a 52-year-old man, said a senior police officer told news agency PTI.

The incident was reported on December 12 when the police received a distress call at 8:30 pm informing about the kidnapping of the young girl. The victim's parents, labourers in a factory and residents of rented accommodation, told the police that their daughter was taken by a man while she was playing outside their house, PTI's report mentioned.

Delhi Crime: Accused Man Took Victim In His Vehicle

As investigations progressed, it was unearthed that the victim had entered the accused's vehicle around 2 pm on December 12, police told PTI. During the search for the missing girl, the accused was involved in a road accident on December 15 and he was admitted to a hospital in Rohini. 

"Police team was sent to the hospital, but he was unfit for statement," said the police officer, as per PTI. 

However, on December 17, the accused, Sanjeev Rana, confessed to the heinous crimes of abduction, rape, and murder of the young girl. He admitted to dumping her body in the Munak Canal. The police are now coordinating efforts to locate the victim's body.

"We are checking the entire route taken by the accused, and he will be brought in to assist in the search for the victim's body on Tuesday," stated a senior police officer, as quoted by PTI.

The police have registered an FIR under sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting to murder), 302 (murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been invoked, the officials informed.
