'Parents Told Us They Consumed Poison, Were Going To Die': UP Couple Commits Suicide After Wife Gang-Raped
A couple in UP's Basti district allegedly died by suicide after the wife was gang-raped.
A man and his wife allegedly died by suicide in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district, hours after the woman was gang-raped, said the police on Saturday. An FIR has been registered in connection with the case and two men have been arrested. The couple recorded a video before the alleged suicide mentioning names of the accused, they added. According to Basti Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopal Krishana, the man died on Friday night while his wife passed away at a hospital in Gorakhpur the following day, reported by PTI.
The relatives of the couple alleged that two men gang-raped the woman in her house under the limits of Rudhauli police station on the intervening night of September 20 and 21, added the SP.
A complaint was registered by the man’s brother on the basis of which an FIR has been lodged against the two men under Sections 376 D (gang rape) and 306 (abetment to suicide), Krishana said.
Both the accused, Adarsh (25) and Triloki (45) have been arrested by the police and an investigation is underway, they added.
According to the police, the couple’s children said that on Friday morning, when they were getting ready for school, their parents told them that they had consumed poison and were going to die, as per the report.

The couple has three children, two sons aged eight and six, and a one-year-old daughter.
Preliminary investigation suggest that the gang-rape was linked with the sale of land owned by the victim, the police added.
In another incident, a class 3 girl in Odisha’s Rayagada district was allegedly raped by a peon of the school where she studies, said the police on Saturday, as per another PTI report.
As per a senior police official, the alleged rape of the eight-year-old dalit girl took place at an ashram school near Rayagada town on Friday, leading to angry locals setting a police vehicle on fire.
The victim was admitted to the hospital and her condition is stable, said the police official while the peon has been suspended and the school headmaster has been issued a show cause, an official said.
