UP Man Writes Suicide Note On Pants Accusing Cops, Wife’s Family Of Harassment And Extortion

The deceased had been involved in a domestic dispute with his wife a day before suicide. He accused the actions of his in-laws and harassment by police constables as the reason behind his drastic step.

A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district died by suicide under disturbing circumstances, leaving behind a message written in blue ink on the white trousers he was wearing at the time. In the suicide note, he has accused two police constables of extortion and assault and his wife's family members as the reason behind his drastic step.

The deceased, identified as Dilip Rajput, had reportedly been involved in a domestic dispute with his wife. The woman, a resident of Chheda Nagla area, approached police on Monday alleging that Dilip had assaulted her in an inebriated state, NDTV reported.

Following the complaint, Dilip and his father visited the local police station. There, constable Yashwant Yadav allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 to "settle" the matter, according to a complaint filed by the family.

When Dilip refused, he was allegedly thrashed by the constable. The amount was later reduced to Rs 40,000 by another constable, Mahesh Upadhyay, and Dilip was allowed to go only after the payment was made, the report said.

Upon returning home, Dilip wrote a suicide note directly on his trousers. The note named his wife’s father Vanwari Lala, her brother Raju, brother-in-law Rajnesh Rajput, and the two police constables, accusing them of physical and mental harassment as well as financial extortion. He was later found hanging in his room by family members on Tuesday morning.

The discovery of his body sparked outrage in the locality, with relatives and locals attempting to block police from taking custody of the body. They demanded immediate action against the accused police personnel.

Jitendra, the deceased's uncle, alleged that a fight between the couple earlier that day had led him to drop his wife at her maternal home, after which the chain of events unfolded. "His wife and relatives filed a complaint and he was picked up by the police. He was asked for a bribe of Rs 50,000 and beaten up by the police. They let him off only after Rs 40,000 was paid. He has detailed everything in the suicide note on his trousers," NDTV quoted him as saying.

Dilip’s father also alleged that the beating was instigated by his son’s in-laws.

Farrukhabad Superintendent of Police Arti Singh confirmed that a complaint was received on Monday regarding a domestic violence incident and that both parties had visited the station.

"We helped both sides arrive at a compromise. The man reached his house and died by suicide. In the post-mortem report, no injuries have been found on his body. In a complaint, the man's family has named three of his wife's relatives and two constables. Strict action will be taken," she said.

An FIR has been filed and an investigation is underway.
