UP Man Kills Grandson In Lalitpur, 'Was Upset With Son's Second Marriage', Say Cops

The accused was reportedly unhappy with his son's marriage to a woman who had four children from her previous marriage

In a horrific turn of events, a six-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by his grandfather over a family dispute in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The accused committed the gruesome crime as he was allegedly displeased with his son's second marriage, police said on Monday.

The accused has been identified as 56-year-old Pritam. He was reportedly unhappy with his son's marriage to a woman who had four children from her previous marriage. The woman had left her three children with her previous husband but brought one child with her to the new household.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mushtaq, they received a report late on Sunday about the suspicious death of a child in Gidvar village in the Pura Kalan area.

"Upon reaching the spot, police found that the child had been strangled to death with a rope," he told news agency PTI.

The official said that the probe revealed that Pritam and his wife were unhappy with the woman bringing her child from the previous relationship to their house. "The accused was unhappy with the child, and in a fit of anger, strangled him to death on Sunday night," the SP said.

The accused has been arrested, and the rope used in the crime has been recovered. The body of the young victim has been sent for post-mortem to the hospital, and further legal action is underway, the officer added.

In an unrelated development, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a village in Lalitpur by some unidentified person, police said on Monday. The incident took place in a village under Jakhaura police station on Sunday when the girl was alone at her house and someone allegedly raped her, Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar told PTI.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital where her condition was stated to be stable, Kumar said.

He said that the girl's family members had gone outside and they came to know about the incident when they returned.

An FIR has been registered in the matter against unidentified person and further investigation is underway, the officer added.
