UP: 2 Coaching Teachers Arrested For Raping, Blackmailing Minor NEET Aspirant In Kanpur

The girl was a minor when she was raped by her biology and chemistry teachers, who are 32 and 39 years old. An FIR was filed against them on Friday, following which both of them were arrested.

Kanpur: Two well-known teachers from a popular coaching centre in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur were arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a minor who had gone to the city to prepare for her NEET medical entrance exam. The teachers had allegedly been harassing her for months and held hostage for over six months.

The teachers have been arrested and charged with offences of rape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act. The student was 17 years old when this happened with her, news agency PTI reported.

The minor finally mustered the courage to lodge a complaint against the teachers after the CCTV footage of one of the teachers, who was arrested a few months ago for allegedly sexually harassing another student, was widely shared.

A police official stated that the victim had gone to Kanpur to prepare for the exam two years ago in December 2022, for which she had enrolled in a coaching centre there.

In December 2022, the student's 32-year-old biology teacher, Sahil Siddiqui, invited her to a party at his friend's flat  in Kalyanpur's Makdi-Khera area. He had told her that it was a New Year's party, which was meant for all students of the coaching centre. However, when the girl reached his flat, she realised that she was alone.

The victim had alleged that Siddiqui had laced her soft drink with sedatives, raped her, and filmed the act. She told the police that Siddiqui had threatened to make the video public and kill her family. The girl also alleged that he had raped her multiple times on other occasions by blackmailing her, the report said.

The survivor was held hostage at Siddiqui's flat for some time and was coerced to attend parties there. During one such party, she was allegedly raped by another teacher, 39-year-old Vikas Porwal, who taught her Chemistry. The victim was a minor at the time.

The student told the police that Siddiqui had also called her and asked her to come back to Kanpur when she had gone home to meet her parents around Holi, threatening to harm her family if she did not obey him.

A purported video of Siddiqui allegedly sexually harassing another student had gone viral recently. But he was released on bail. Seeing this, the victim got the courage to come forward and with her mother's support, filed a police complaint against the teachers on Thursday, November 7.

Kalyanpur Police lodged a first information report (FIR) against the two teachers under Indian Penal Code sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 376(2)(n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman), 344 (wrongful confinement for 10 or more days) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and the POCSO Act, following which both Siddiqui and Porwal were arrested on the same night.

"The student told us she was raped by the accused on separate occasions. A case has been registered and the two men have been arrested and are being questioned. The student was a minor at the time and has requested us not to share too many details," Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Pandey said.
