Two Coaches Of Empty Local Train Derail In Mumbai, No Injuries Reported

Chief public relations officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek reported no injuries, as the train was empty when it derailed at around 12:10 pm.

Two coaches of an empty local train derailed amid entering a car shed from Mumbai Central, disrupting operations on the Western Railway on Sunday, officials said. No injuries were reported, as the train was empty when it derailed at around 12:10 pm, Chief public relations officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek stated.

Vineet Abhishek also said that the derailment has severely affected the suburban services, blocking the slow track towards Dadar. "The slow track towards Dadar between Churchgate and Mumbai Central is blocked. However, trains are being diverted to the fast line between these two stations to ensure continued operations," the official told news agency PTI.

He further added that efforts are currently underway to rerail the coaches and restore normal operations.

Mysore-Darbhanga Express Collides With Goods Train,12 Coaches Derail

Yesterday, a similar derailment incident came to light in Tamil Nadu where the Mysore-Darbhanga Express collided with a stationary goods train near Kavarapettai. The incident left at least 20 people injured.

The collision, which took place at around 8:30 PM on Friday, caused 12-13 coaches of the express train to derail. It also caused fire and smoke from two coaches after the collision. 

According to initial inputs, there were no casualties were reported in the incident but at least 20 persons were injured and were transfered to hospitals. As per the inputs, signal issues suspected to have caused the accident.

The train, identified as Train No. 12578 (MYS-DBG) was travelling from Mysore to Darbhanga. It had departed from Perambur at 7:44 PM. The train was near Kavarapettai around 8:27 PM when it crashed into the rear of a stationary goods train at high speed, resulting in the derailment. 

Due to the impact, "the parcel van which was next to the Engine caught fire, which was doused by the fire brigade. A total of 12-13 coaches have derailed. So far, no casualties have been reported. All injured passengers are moved to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Train movement in both directions is closed", CPRO South Western Railway told news agency ANI.
