TMC vs BJP Photo War Erupts Over Kolkata Gang Rape Accused

All India Trinamool Congress said that BJP has stooped to a new low each day and questioned if they have forgotten how the party protects rapists and refuses to punish them.

In the Kolkata gang rape case, a photo war has begun between the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Bengal unit of the saffron party shared several images of the accused, allegedly an active member of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), Monojit Mishra, with top leaders of TMC, including minister Chandrima Bhattacharya.

"BJP stands firmly with the victim and her family. We will continue to demand full accountability and ensure that justice is served," BJP wrote in a post on X and shared several images of the accused.

BJP West Bengal's co-incharge, Amit Malviya, has also condemned the incident as  "another shameful chapter" in Bengal's "collapsing law and order under TMC rule". He termed the incident has a  "symptom of a deeper rot".

"If reports are to be believed, the girl was taken to a bathroom first, then dragged into a room after screaming. If that’s the case, was everyone in the building deaf, blind, or just afraid to speak against TMCP? TMC MUST ANSWER," Malviya wrote in a post on X.

Reacting to the post, All India Trinamool Congress said that BJP has stooped to a new low each day and questioned if they have forgotten how the party protects rapists and refuses to punish them.

"Have they COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN how @BJP4India PROTECTS RAPISTS and refuses to punish them? Crimes against women did not rise on its own in BJP-ruled states, rapists are repeatedly nurtured and protected under @narendramodi ji's watch," AITC posted on X.

"From granting bail to those convicted of rape to shooting down victims & their kin - BJP has repeatedly shown its true colours. The nation remembers. The nation watches," the party further added.

The incident took place on the evening of June 25, when the woman went to the college and was taken by the three accused to a room inside the educational institute and gang-raped, the police said. The student lodged a complaint with the Kasba Police Station, and the three accused were held on Thursday. As of now, the matter is at an initial stage, the officer said.
