Terrorists Shoot Dead Local In Jammu And Kashmir's Kupwara

The gunmen attacked the social activist, Ghulam Rasool Magray, inside his residence at Kandi Khas late on Saturday.

Suspected terrorists shot dead a 45-year-old man in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district days after the dastardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The gunmen attacked the social activist, Ghulam Rasool Magray, inside his residence at Kandi Khas late on Saturday, officials said.

He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. It was not known why the terrorists targeted the social activist.

The recent incident was reported amid recent terrorist encounters in the union territory after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.

An encounter broke out in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam district on Friday as security forces launched a joint operation after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists. Two terrorists are suspected of being trapped.

On Thursday, three Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) associates were arrested at a checkpoint in Bandipora. A Chinese pistol, two magazines, several rounds, and hand grenades were recovered from them in the Garoora Hajin area.

Acting tough against the militants, the union territory administration with the help of security forces has demolished the homes of several terrorists. In the latest operation, the house of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Farooq Ahmed was blown up in Kupwara. This was the sixth such action following the attack in Pahalgam.

Earlier, houses of suspected terrorists were demolished in the Pulwama, Shopian, Kupwara and Kulgam districts of Kashmir. Raids were carried out at more than 60 places in Srinagar to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem. The search operations in the Anantnag district were carried out round the clock as security forces has stepped up violence.

Mobile vehicle checkpoints have been put up across the district to monitor any suspicious movement, an officials was quoted by news agency PTI. The security forces are going after the known terrorist associates and their sympathisers across the length and breadth of the Valley to create deterrence against any Pahalgam-like attacks.
