Tamil Nadu: AI Student Claims Superpowers, Leaps From 4th Floor Of Coimbatore Hostel

The student Prabhu’s friends informed the police that he had exhibited strange behavior in the days leading up to the incident.

Coimbatore news: A 19-year-old B.Tech student jumped from the fourth floor of his college hostel claiming he possessed superhuman abilities in Coimbatore on Monday evening. The student, identified as A. Prabhu, is pursuing a B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at a private college in Myleripalayam, near Coimbatore, reported The Hindu. He hails from Mekkur village near Perundurai in Erode district.

Police officials reported that Prabhu sustained injuries to his legs, hip, and face. He was initially rushed by fellow students to a private hospital in Othakkalmandapam and later shifted to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment. Although his condition is said to be stable, his recovery is expected to take time due to the extent of his injuries.

Prabhu’s friends informed the police that he had exhibited strange behavior in the days leading up to the incident. He reportedly told his friends that he was under the influence of witchcraft and had developed superpowers that would protect him from harm if he jumped from any height, as per a report on Times of India. Despite his friends’ concerns, Prabhu continued to believe in his abilities.

Around 6:30 pm on Monday, Prabhu leaped from the fourth-floor veranda, shocking the students who were standing nearby. He suffered multiple injuries upon impact. Chettipalayam police, led by Sub-Inspector Karuppasamy Pandian, conducted an inspection of Prabhu’s mobile phone and discovered videos he had taken early that morning. One video showed Prabhu filming the hostel wall and its height around 4 am, indicating that he had been contemplating the jump for some time, as per the report.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, including any external influences or beliefs that might have affected Prabhu’s mental state. The police are also reviewing the content on his phone to understand his actions.
