Sonipat Congress MLA Arrested By ED In Haryana Illegal Mining Case

The Enforcement Directorate carried out raids at Congress MLA Surender Panwar's residences and office in January this year.

Haryana News: The Enforcement Directorate has arrested the MLA of Haryana’s Congress unit, Surender Panwar. The Sonepat MLA was arrested from Gurugram past midnight in a case of illegal mining. Following his arrest, Panwar was produced in Ambala Court, and he is likely to be taken on remand.

The probe agency carried out raids at the MLA’s residences and office earlier this year. In January, the probe agency raided the locations of Haryana Congress MLA Surender Panwar, former INLD legislator Dilbag Singh, and some others as part of a money laundering case linked to alleged illegal mining in Yamuna Nagar district of the state, as reported by news agency PTI.

As many as 20 locations of the two politicians and linked entities in Yamuna Nagar, Sonipat, Mohali, Faridabad, Chandigarh, and Karnal were searched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sources further stated.

The money laundering case stems from several FIRs of the Haryana Police registered to probe alleged illegal mining that took place in Yamuna Nagar and nearby districts in the past.

Reacting on Panwar's ED arrest in the alleged illegal mining case, Haryana Minister Subhash Sudha said that this arrest has nothing to do with the upcoming assembly elections in the state and action will be taken by the government against the wrongdoer. "The government will take action against the wrongdoer. The action has been taken by the government authorities...It has nothing to do with elections," he said.
