A first year MBA student was allegedly thrashed and abused by three senior students in a hostel room of a private university in Himachal Pradesh's Solan for not drinking liquor.

Solan: Three students of a private university located in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district in Kandaghat subdivision were arrested on Tuesday, September 10, for their alleged involvement in the ragging of a first year MBA student. The video of the incident has surfaced on social media and shows the three of them thrashing, abusing, and whipping the junior student in a room. Further investigation in the case is underway.

The junior student, Rajat Kumar, lodged a complaint against the three students, following which they were held. In his complaint, he alleged that two students had come to his hostel room on Saturday night, asking him to come to room number 416. They told him that some seniors were calling him and when he refused to go along with them, they took him forcibly, Kumar alleged, news agency PTI reported.

The complainant further stated that when he entered the room, the seniors locked it immediately and told him to drink liquor. When he refused to do so, they allegedly beat him up and and the ragging went on till next morning on Sunday.

In the video, a group of three students can be seen surrounding a junior student, who is forced to sit in middle in a chair. They can be seen abusing and thrashing him repeatedly, while other students present in the room look at the student being ragged. One of the three students can also be seen whipping the junior student with a belt multiple times. The video seems to be recorded by another student who was present in the room during the incident.

Superintendent of Police Solan, Gaurav Singh told PTI that a case under section 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and section 127(2) (under Section wrongful confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and section 3 of Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of Ragging) Act 2009 has been registered. He also stated that the three students of the university have been arrested. The university authorities told PTI that the trio has also been expelled from the varsity.

The arrested students are Divyansh (19) from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur, Chirag Rana (19) from state's Mandi, and Karan Dogra (19), a resident of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.
