Alert Locopilot Averts Derailment Bid, Spots 20-Ft-Long Pipe On Tracks

Spotting a 20-foot iron pipe obstructing the tracks between Kandhla and Shamli, the driver initiated emergency brakes, halting the Delhi-Shamli train.

An alert locopilot averted a major train tragedy after he spotted a 20-foot-long iron pipe on railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night. 

The tain was on Delhi-Saharanpur route when the locopilot spotted the iron pipe, 20 feet-long having a diameter of around 8 inches, reported The Times of India. 

The locopilot applied the emergnecy brakes and brought the 64021 Delhi-Shamli train to a halt, the officials said. The pipe was discovered around 10:18 pm between Kandhla and Shamli stations, the officials said. 

Shamli Superintendent of Police Ram Sevak Gautam said an FIR has been booked at Shamli police station against unknown persons. 

"Initial investigation revealed that the borewell pipe was uprooted from a tubewell belonging to a farmer of nearby Simbhalkha village," Gautam said, adding that"given the seriousness of the issue, several special police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those responsible," he said.
