Schools To Remain Closed In Tamil Nadu Due To Rains, Check IMD Forecast
Schools in Ooty (Udhagamandalam), Kundah, Gudalur, and Pandalur taluks will remain shut for the day.

In light of adverse weather conditions, including persistent rainfall and strong winds across the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, authorities have declared a holiday for schools in select taluks as a precautionary measure.
District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru announced the decision on Monday morning, confirming that schools in Ooty (Udhagamandalam), Kundah, Gudalur, and Pandalur taluks will remain shut for the day.
The move aims to ensure the safety of students amid the continuing downpour and gusty winds that have disrupted normal life in the hilly terrain. The Nilgiris district, known for its steep slopes and dense vegetation, is particularly vulnerable to landslides and road blockages during the monsoon season, prompting timely action from the administration.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have advised residents, particularly those in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, to remain alert. Officials have also urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the ghat roads, which are slippery and hazardous in the current conditions.
IMD Forecasts Rain In Tamil Nadu
While there have been no reports of major damage or casualties so far, the district administration is prepared to escalate safety measures if weather conditions worsen. Emergency response teams are on standby to address any eventualities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued light to moderate rain in parts of Tamil Nadu, including the Nilgiris, over the next 48 hours, with isolated heavy showers likely in the higher reaches. Residents are advised to follow updates from local authorities and stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
