Sambhal Violence: 3 More Men Detained In Connection With Nov 24 Clashes; 30 Arrested So Far

Four people died and several people, including police personnel, were injured after a confrontation erupted over a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, UP.

In a recent development in the Sambhal violence case, Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aujaneya Kumar Singh confirmed on Thursday that police have detained three people in connection with the November 24 clashes. 

The arrested accused have been identified as Faizan, Aamir, and Mohammad Ali. The development comes as the Moradabad Divisional Commissioner confirmed th involvement of three minors in the Sambhal violence, which claimed four lives, and left several people, including police personnel.

Clashes erupted over a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal's Kot Garvi area last Sunday. The survey was ordered following a petition claiming that a Harihar temple once stood at the site.

The official had said that the minors involved in the Sambhal violence case could change as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has said that it will make the protesters involved in the Sambhal violence compensate for damage done to public property.

An estimate of the losses caused due to the damage to public property is being analysed. Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar told news agency PTI that stones were pelted on mosque as well. Besdies this, police vehicles, electric wires, and transformer were damaged. 

The posters of those involved in stone pelting will also be displayed at public places. Sambal police has released numerous pictures of those involved in violence. Nine persons were identified in these photographs and the police is seeking help from people to identify those who had covered their faces with masks during the clash.

Kumar said on Wednesday tha 27 people have been arrested so far. With today's arrests, this tally has reached 30. Police have filed seven FIRs, names 22 people, and identified 74 others as the investigation into the incident is underway.  

Police have registered charges against Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal Zia-ur-Rehman Barq, and Sohail Iqbal, son of the party's local MLA Iqbal Mehmood. Over 2,750 unidentified suspects have also been named in the FIRs.
