Mamata Banerjee Invites RG Kar Protesters For Talks Today, But No Live-Streaming Allowed

RG Kar News: The Bengal government has invited protesting junior doctors to a discussion at Nabanna at 5 PM. The CM has agreed to a 15-member delegation but has rejected live-streaming of the talks.

RG Kar News: The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government wrote to the protesting junior doctors again on Thursday. Inviting them to Nabanna, the state secretariat, at 5 PM on Thursday. The government has, however, turned down the request to allow a 30-member doctors' team into Nabanna as the Chief Minister has agreed to talk to a 15-member delegation only.

It has also rejected the protesters' demand for live-streaming the discussion but has agreed to a video recording of the same.

The protesters had earlier demanded that a 30-member team be allowed to meet CM Mamata. However, the government on Wednesday said it would allow only 12-13 members. Today, it has relented to allow 15 members.

While the foremost demand of the protesters is ensuring the safety of women health workers in Bengal, they also demanded the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, the Director of Health Education (DHE), the state Health Secretary, and the Director of Health Services (DHS).

In a letter to the protesters, Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant said: "The meeting shall be attended by a delegate team of only 15 persons to ensure a smooth discussion. The meeting shall not be live telecasted. However, the same can be recorded to
maintain transparency. This will serve the purpose intended from your end, while also maintaining the sanctity of the proceedings, ensuring that all discussions are accurately documented."

"We look forward to your positive response and are committed to working together to benefit the innumerable patients dependent on the Government health infrastructure in the state," Pant wrote.

What RG Kar Victim's Father Said About CM Mamata

The doctors are protesting the rape and murder of a junior doctor on the premises of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Since the crime, the doctors and the Bharatiya Janata Party have accused the Mamata Banerjee administration of destroying evidence to protect the accused.

On Wednesday, the father of the victim said that the family was not satisfied with the conduct of CM Mamata and her administration. He alleged that someone from the hospital was involved in the crime. He said: "No one will celebrate Durga Puja this year. If someone celebrates, they will not be doing so from their heart."

So far, only one accused, Sanjay Roy, has been arrested in the case.
