10 Maha Kumbh Devotees From Chhattisgarh Killed In Prayagraj Highway Accident

Ten Maha Kumbh devotees from Chhattisgarh died in a collision between their SUV and a bus on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway.

Ten Maha Kumbh devotees died in a major road accident, while 19 have been injured, as there was a head-on collision between an SUV full of devotees and a bus. According to the information, the accident took place on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway in Meja late Friday night.

The Police reached the spot as soon as the information was received, and they have taken the bodies into custody. Also, the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

All the 10 devotees who were travelling in the Bolero died on the spot in the accident. The devotees were the residents of Korba district of Chhattisgarh, and they were coming to the Mela for Sangam bath.

Nineteen devotees, who got injured in the accident, were the residents of Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh and were going to Varanasi after Sangam bath. They have been admitted to CHC Ramnagar.

As per the details, the age of the deceased was between 25 to 45 years, and all were men.

President Droupadi Murmu took to Twitter and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath also took cognizance of the road accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

More than 50 crore people have visited Maha Kumbh so far.

Road Accident in Basti

In another incident, four died when a car collideed with tractor trolley in Basti. After getting information about the accident, SP Abhinandan and other officers reached the spot. The police cut out the bodies trapped in the badly damaged car and took them out. The accident took place at Benipur intersection on Babhanan Harraiya road in Pakolia police station area of ​​Basti district.

Bus Collided With Truck In Amethi

In a separate incident in Amethi, a bus full of passengers collided with a parked truck on Purvanchal Expressway. Out of about 12 passengers in the bus, four passengers including the driver were seriously injured. As per the details, all the injured are being treated at CHC and two are referred to Lucknow.

The bus was going from Gwalior to Gorakhpur when the accident happened and, after the collision, the bus caught fire and burned to ashes. The truck driver fled leaving the truck after the incident.

There has been a number of road accidents in the past involving devotees of the ongoing Maha Kumbh.

On February 13, as many as three people, including husband and wife were killed and two others were injured after a bus carrying 57 Maha Kumbh pilgrims rammed into a truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan's Kota district, police said.

The pilgrims were returning to Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur after attending the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Paryagraj.

Earlier, on February 7, two pilgrims returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela were killed and about a dozen others were injured when the mini-bus they were travelling in rammed into a stationary bus on the roadside on police said.

As per the information, the incident took place on the Yamuna Expressway under Tappal police station area.
